As you may already know, we have spent some time isolating as someone in my daughter’s bubble has unfortunately contracted Covid19. We had brilliant support from school and home-schooling went really well, we had more than enough to keep her busy. Both of my girls were home with me as my eldest is not old enough to leave home alone whilst I take the younger to nursery so we did the nursery activities at home. The first week was very difficult, it is interesting how much outdoor people we are. You don’t realise so much about yourself until it is taken away.
The second week we got into it and found so many things to do at home and started having fun with it. We played lego, we did art work, we covered the house with glitter so now the carpet looks like a snapchat shine filter no matter how much I vacuum, we made palydough, we baked, we made mud-pies in the garden, leaf piles to jump in and watched movies.
Yesterday was the first day back and it felt very unusual to leave the house although we were all ready; lunchboxes packed. My eldest came home from school and said that she would rather do her work on the laptop! When I asked her if she had missed her friends and yes, she had so that was settled. The little one was happy to have been to nursery so all fine. I spent the morning doing a grocery shop, cleaning products shop. I had forgotten that shopping wasn’t this exciting thing it used to be; I just wanted to be at home away from the masks and the 2m distancing. It’s interesting when people have masks on, they feel like they can’t even speak to say hello or excuse me.
With the news saying that a travel quarantine period could reduce to 5 days if you are willing to pay for a test that results in a negative result, will that help those who have been in contact but show no symptoms and not just those who have travelled?
I suppose being released wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be whilst we can’t visit each other, a worry hanging over our heads that we could catch an illness that has unpredictable effects on each individual. The main thing is that the girls have school, we can go to the park, and enjoy the simple things.
