Getting to know me

What an interesting time this career break has been so far. Alongside home-schooling, I decided to take on a Project that has always been a personal ambition.

I have always thought of myself a great multi-tasker, a fantastic completer-finisher, but never did I realise how creative I naturally am leaving me relying on colleagues and team members to finish a Project because they could see the end when I put all of my energy into pushing the beginning.

I have been writing a book containing a series of interviews with women. The book is now finished and I feel relieved. It seems I love to be distracted by other tasks and although I always finish them, the focus and commitment in writing a book is a different level of concentration required altogether. It is not a small task not only to express content into words that relate to a reader, but also feel the voice of the person you are portraying.

I took the time out of all engagements and this blog so I wouldn’t look away from my project as I knew I would use those as excuses not to finish this task. I’m naturally a people person so engaging with others is something I prioritise more than deep concentration work. I have felt fulfilled writing this book taking on the positive feelings, the difficult emotions and the overwhelming sense of obligation for each of these women. The key output was resilience in each of these stories and there is a lot to learn from that.

I know it isn’t a very long book, but the main aim wasn’t to overwhelm the reader with a lot of stories, it’s a snapshot in time for each of them. It’s a snapshot in time for me that I have managed to complete a full book that I am happy with and is written in my typical concise way. I hope this book allows the conversation to continue about everyone’s experiences in lockdown, it will allow readers to reflect on the now and the future.

I will update you all on the book on Monday with a social media post. For now, I will have a weekend of reflection on this achievement.

A career break is something I never thought I would do. Please join me in my transition journey from being a career-woman mum to a full time mum to my two lovely girls. It is helping me to compare business practice with the way we do things in family life.
