We start back to school next Monday but we are now winding down all of our activities. School uniform is all purchased ready to be labelled and will be put into PE bags before the weekend, just to enjoy our last Saturday and Sunday as a whole family before the school run starts.
When you are working on a project and the end is just working itself out, it is an amazing feeling. Of course self-doubt that I may have missed a bit but having checklists provides reassurance, concern that a risk that you hadn’t thought of materialised at the last minute but you know what, those are unforeseen and who would expect you to know about that?
As a natural problem solver, I have become more confident in my skills to understand how I can remedy something because rarely is it ever the end of the world when it comes to a work/ corporate task. It is almost always something that can be fixed without impacting someone’s health and well-being. Of course, the culture of the place, your ability to understand and engage your team as a leader, knowing limits and encouraging a positive mindset is vital to all of this.
Being a project manager isn’t just holding a timetable and telling everyone what to do; I can imagine my girls making me aware of that if I tried to run them to a schedule or plan. It is about listening, providing appropriate goal setting and allowing the task to define itself. That results in successful achievement.
How do you feel at the end of a Project? Or Holiday? Or any time period? Are you a planner or end of the game rusher?
