Regardless of whether it is the first day of school or the first day of a new job, excitement and apprehension fills your sleep the night before.

We lay out our clothes the night before, organise what we will do for breakfast or lunch, take a photo to remember this occasion, and accept well wishes from our family. It may be a stereotypical situation but regardless of the things that go wrong like toothpaste down your shirt or coffee spilled all over your hand, you view this date as a milestone of achievement.
Learning something new provides us with an adrenaline rush but it is how you respond to this burst of energy. You can either worry about it all and avoid all new situations as much as possible, or embrace them.
We see this in our children when they start a new school, a new class, a new hobby or club. With children, the worry disappears very quickly because they do not have as many expectations as we do as adults. Sometimes we expect too much in apprehension of a new experience, or sometimes we are cynical and don’t expect anything at all.
The important factor is that you are in control of this new situation and take away from it what you need to. Keep a positive open mind and be clear about your objectives for this day or new achievement. Enjoy!
